§ Marine Safety & AI Disclaimer

Marine Safety & AI Disclaimer

Effective date: 14 May 2026 · Version 1.0 · You must acknowledge this notice at signup and on first use of AI features.

Important — read before using the Service at sea.
  • The True Blue Horizon platform is a monitoring and information tool. It is not a navigation, collision-avoidance, search-and-rescue, distress, or safety-of-life system.
  • Always maintain proper watchkeeping, follow COLREGS, use certified marine instruments, and consult qualified marine professionals.
  • AI features can be wrong. Treat all AI output as informational and verify before acting.
  • In an emergency, contact the US Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16 or your local maritime emergency authority. Do not rely on this Service for emergency communication.

1. The Service Is Not a Navigation System

True Blue Horizon does not replace certified marine electronics, official charts (NOAA, UKHO, IHO ENCs), AIS receivers, radar, GPS plotters, depth sounders, or any other equipment required by law or recommended for safe operation of your Vessel. You must use the appropriate certified equipment for navigation, collision avoidance, and emergency communication.

2. Telemetry Limitations

Telemetry values displayed by the Service are sourced from sensors on your Vessel, transmitted by the Gateway, and stored in our infrastructure. The accuracy, freshness, and availability of these values depend on factors outside our control, including:

  • The condition and calibration of your sensors.
  • The quality of cellular, satellite, or other connectivity at your Vessel's location.
  • Sub-processor and third-party network availability.
  • Severe weather, sea state, and other environmental conditions.

The Service may display stale, delayed, or missing values, and may stop receiving telemetry entirely without warning. Do not rely on the Service to confirm vessel status remotely for any decision that could affect safety.

3. AI Features — Known Limitations

AI features are powered by third-party large language models. They can produce output that is plausible-sounding but incorrect, incomplete, or out of date (“hallucinations”). You should:

  • Treat AI output as a starting point, not a final answer.
  • Verify all numerical values, regulatory references, maintenance recommendations, and safety guidance with primary sources or qualified professionals before acting.
  • Not rely on AI output for navigation, collision avoidance, emergency response, medical, legal, or financial decisions.
  • Not use AI output to operate equipment in ways inconsistent with the manufacturer's instructions or your insurer's requirements.

4. Maintenance & Engineering Advice

Engine, electrical, fuel-system, and mechanical advice generated by the Service is not a substitute for inspection by a qualified marine engineer, surveyor, or manufacturer-authorised technician. Do not perform mechanical or electrical work on the basis of AI output without competent verification.

5. Weather & Routing

Weather and routing features draw on third-party data sources that may be incomplete or out of date. Always cross-check with official meteorological sources (NWS, NOAA, NHC, your local bureau) before departure and during voyage planning.

6. Insurance & Regulatory Compliance

You are responsible for maintaining appropriate marine insurance and complying with all applicable maritime regulations. Nothing in the Service modifies your obligations to your insurer, the flag state, port state, or any other authority.

7. Emergencies

In an emergency, use VHF Channel 16, EPIRB, PLB, satellite communicator, or other primary emergency-communication equipment. Do not rely on this Service. We do not monitor the Service for distress signals and we do not have the ability to dispatch rescue services.
